LIBRARY NOTICES:  By the time this issue releases, an important new digest-format booklet entitled 200 Years of Surfing Literature, a bibliography of books on surfing.  96 pages, published by Timothy DeLaVega www.surfingcollectablesguide.com made possible by a grant from the Surfing Heritage Foundation, should be available. A team of writers worked on the project including Daved Marsh, Joel Smith, Joe Tabler, Sandy K. Hall, Peter Robinson, Paul Smith, Mark Thompson, Paul Atwood, Geoff Smith and  DeLaVega compiling a comprehensive bibliography of surfing related books articles and early published references from over the last 200 years. The book should provide an invaluable aid to collectors, students, scholars and journalists. Though not the first such collectors, bibliography (I have one in my possession produced years ago by surf-book collector Ward Smith of San Jose , California ), this effort will now become the more formally produced benchmark. Supporting the publishing of this booklet is the first project of this nature undertaken by Surfing Heritage Foundation.

Collector Spencer Croul of Newport Beach, who through the Croul Family Foundation has been funding good works in the surfing realm, such as the recently acclaimed Tom Blake book, and a current book project in the works on Dale Velzy by Paul Holmes, has recently melded with SHF resulting in the combining of his and SHF founder Dick Metz's surfboard collection into probably “the most significant existent surfboard collection.” SHF is in process of buying a building in San Clemente that will serve as its headquarters museum for the combined collection until future plans unfold.  For more info on SHF, visit their web at http://www.surfingheritage.com
